Fibre Internet Coming to Baptiste Lake Road/Loop Road Area
While driving down Baptiste Lake Road on my way to Bancroft, I noticed new cable sheaths emerging from the ditch along the north side of the road allowance near Jordan Lake. As an IT professional who moved to the region in 2019, I had been relying on Bell’s 5 Mbps ADSL service — basically 1990s-era Internet — until Starlink became available during the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2022.
I also remember Doug Ford announcing the province’s plan to invest in Ontario’s cottage country regions to improve work-from-home options and enhance business viability.
Exciting Developments
Seeing what I recognized as fiber optic cable sheaths along Baptiste Road and Loop Road was thrilling. I’ve done some research and found resources to track the project’s progress.
I’ll be sharing updates here on the AGBA blog and at our monthly meetings once this new Internet service becomes available.
Predicted Service Offerings
Based on current information, here’s what I anticipate:
25 Mbps/10 Mbps plan at $89/month, replacing the current 5 Mbps/800 Kbps service. Likely automatic upgrade for existing customers.
50 Mbps/15 Mbps plan may also become available.
Additional offerings could include static IP addresses.
Reseller entry into the market is not expected for at least five years. Once they do enter, we can expect more competitive options beyond what Bell will offer.
Stay Informed
I encourage members to follow the AGBA blog for ongoing updates on this project. This is an exciting step forward for the region’s connectivity, and I’ll keep you posted as the service becomes available.
